Limpkin

I used to have to travel north to Palm Beach County from Broward to see these birds as their primary food source (Apple Snails) was scarce further south in Florida (at least in Broward County). Today, they are common throughout all of South Florida, from pure and wild natural areas, to heavily populated residential parks. These birds have bills uniquely adapted for eating Apple Snails, but unless you had good binoculars or a zoom lens, you wouldn’t notice. What you would definitely notice is their haunting call, which, as allaboutbirds.org describes, is “otherworldly and unforgettable.”
