Common Nighthawk
These birds are incredibly acrobatic fliers and can be seen flying during the day at any time between dawn and dusk. In fact, the bird’s name is curious becuase they’re not active exclusively at night, and they’re not hawks.

Limpkin
These birds have bills uniquely adapted for eating Apple Snails, but unless you had good binoculars or a zoom lens, you wouldn’t notice. What you would definitely notice is their haunting call, which, as allaboutbirds.org describes, is “otherworldly and unforgettable.”
Pileated Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpeckers are fabulous, not only because of their flaming red crests, but because they happen to be the largest woodpeckers found in our area.

Northern Mockingbird
Mockingbirds are found everywhere; residential neighborhoods, parks, cities, and miles into the Everglades.
Osprey
Osprey are seen all year in South Florida, although they are more easily found during the winter months.
Eastern Medowlark
Their bright yellow underparts and black chest really stand out amongst other birds in the Everglades.
Yellow-Rumped Warbler
These are one of the most common warblers in South Florida during the winter, second only to the oh-so-common Palm Warbler.
Tricolored Heron
Tricolored Herons are common in South Florida all year long. Compared to other herons, they are quite colorful.
