Their bright yellow underparts and black chest really stand out amongst other birds in the Everglades. In South Florida, these birds prefer living in open prairies far from residential areas (or at least as far as one can get these days). They are more likely to be seen running along tall grasses than flying overhead. At the start of the breeding season though, they can often be found on fence posts or telephone lines, singing their sweet, soft, whistle-like songs. These are one of my favorite birds in the blackbird family.
